Personality[]

Dr. Zachary was an optimistic and adventurous echidna with bright plans for the future, and the brains to put those plans into motion. He was never seen without a bright smile or a sparkle in his gentle amythest eyes, especially when he was doing work he loved. Zachary was a caring soul who always helped those in need, despite circumstances, and tried to be a devout follower of at least one god.

After the accident that claimed his right arm and half of his head (further damage incurred was internal, or hidden afterward), Zachary became a rather bitter and cynical Echidna, perhaps due to his change of face. While there was some damage to his brain, the surgeons had originally deemed no change in personality or lifestyle due to it. However, as he continued on after the surgery, his actions became more sporatic and unpredictable, and a vicious temper flared up that was never present before. Zachary became reclusive and violent, growing to deem his previous work anathema to himself. He proclaimed himself an atheist, though there was evidence to suggest he was now worshipping the Forgotten God Vichama.

Zachary was taken to periods of self-loathing to the point of inflicting injuries on himself and his cybernetic arm, and was taken in to psychiatric counselling. After an extended period of observation and time in solitary, he emerged as a 'changed man', growing a confidence and ego. Still unwilling to interact with the other Echidnas, possibly due to insecurities over his appearance, he spent more time cooped up in his house, plotting. This new side of Zachary would not blink at the extermination of millions or billions, and would even deem it necessary for his plans. Cool and collected, and not seemingly bound to bouts of unexplainable rage, he presented the prime candidate for takeover of his nation...

Traits[]

Dr. Zachary hates himself. Vehemently. But he does present a picture-perfect example of self-love. There is a side of him that does indeed love his new look, particularly the power and addition of the technology as a mode of self-perfection, and these two sides are warring deep inside his subconscious. His psyche suggests a schism or bi-polarity could occur due to this, or, most shockingly, dual personalities emerging.

Abilities[]

  • Physical: While Dr. Zachary is not in the prime of health or fitness, his turn to villainy has indeed worked wonders on his system. Zachary's endurance levels are very high. He doesn't give in to pain easily, and he remains cogitive even under great deals of stress or pain. This is probably due to his accident, and the long-term pain that he struggled through, making everything else evermore seem secondary, and easier to deal with.

Dr. Zachary's Original Arm Cannon and Accoutrements

His arm cannon has the ability to shoot ion particles at high speeds, a rather injurious weapon permanently affixed to his form.

  • Mental: Zachary posesses a rather large IQ, if one cares for the numeric aspect to things.
    • Intelligence: Easily one of the most intelligent of Echidnas, he was not only able to understand the mechanics of ancient Echidnan tech, but incorporate it into modern tech and schemes.
    • Sanity: A surprising 82%
    • Learned: Zachary can quickly pick things up if he has the motivation for it, and this was one of the ways that he learned how to maintain, assemble, and reprogram electronical devices, particularly in rebuilding and upgrading his own arm. Since then, this has extended to a deep knowledge of computer mechanics and overriding the Monitor droids that helped to guard the Master Emerald.
    • Critical Thinking: ENTER
  • Learned: Dr. Zachary has very little training in combat or any form of exertion. While he is proficient in the operating room and in healing burn victims, he doesn't have much of a life outside of his workplace, and consequently, his social abilities are equally diminished. Dr. Zachary does indeed posess a doctorate in medicine and in surgery, and is such licensed to wield a knife against healthy tissue - this is moot, however, when his good hand was the one taken by the fall.
    • Book-smarts: Zachary's main course of study is the field of medicine, but he's always reading something, whether it's ancient religious texts, or the latest update in cybernetics. As his primary pleasure, he's constantly seeking to improve himself and store away vast tracts of knowledge.
    • Street-smarts: Aware of his appearance, he's capitulated upon its extremism as a form of protection. Prior to that, he had some difficulty as his albinism gave him the appearance of an easy target. Just 'being aware' of 'bad neighborhoods' was insufficient, and he's had to learn much since then.
    • Wisdom: Dr. Zachary has demonstrated that he is capable enough to manipulate Knuckles with words and expression alone. Given enough time off the field of combat, we may see more wisdom ensue. 90% of the time, he's more emotionally capable than his enemies or his allies.
  • Special: ENTER
    • Attacks: ENTER
    • Martial Arts: ENTER
    • Powers: If it can be called so, Zachary is proficient in a form of mental and emotional manipulation, working along a path of simple logic, ad hoc, and basic statements designed to rile his target and get them off task - enough to push them over into doing what he wants. Whether this extends into long-term, finesse-driven persuasion is yet to be seen.
  • Instincts/Reflexes: ENTER
  • Chaos: ENTER

Weaknesses[]

  • Physical:
    • General: Zachary is limited by the charge that he has in his cybernetics, and also by the fact that he has cybernetic implants. His body is still unused to the difference in weight, and this costs him some degree of balance.
    • Ailments: Zachary is beset with a mild form of asthma, common in the too-clean Hidden City principalities.
    • Allergies: It is uncertain whether he has any allergies. He certainly hasn't come across anything that has given him a particularly strong reaction.
  • Mental: The doctor's scorn for loyalty and love limits his capacity to understand these concepts, and without understanding, he underestimates them. He refuses to appreciate his foes at his level, again, leading to underestimation of their abilities. Zachary also has an intense degree of vertigo, which further stunts his ability to jump off things or glide.
  • Emotional: Zachary is emotionally stilted. He believes that the best way to deal with the out-of-control emotions raging within him are just to bottle them up and ignore them. Consequently, he is under a great deal of stress, and he's slowly losing touch with the more vulnerable side of him. He has special animocity for his wife, and bringing her into discussion or using her as a tool is certain to set him off.
  • Special: Zachary lacks the same powers as his rival. While he formerly was able to glide, repeated encounters with Knuckles has almost ruined that ability. An additional ingrained fear of heights from particular interactions has only proved to him that jumping off things will only result in pain and injury.
  • Chaos: Zachary doesn't have any particular affinity for the Chaos Force, and this means that while his enemies can use it naturally in their attacks, he must have some sort of machine on hand to filter it and convert it into power-blasts or some other form of energy or weapon.

Affiliations/Relations[]

Wife[]

Dr. Zachary had a tumultuous relationship with his wife in both realities. Neither version of his wife was able to conceive, and they fought over adoption, foster-care, or getting a pet. It is clear that neither relationship ended very well. There were too many differences and they existed in very separate spheres. As a manipulator, Zachary used his relationship for public presentation and the formation of a particular image to beguile others by.

  • Sue-Zi - His estranged wife
  • Courtney - His alternate, dead wife; Consider this the primary wife name in all future interactions due to the new naming procedures in SS

Rivals/Enemies[]

  • Z-Sama - The man that seems to tick him off

History[]

Individual[]

Dr. Zachary was a young surgeon who was known for his innovative approach to treating burn victims and applying skin grafts. By the age of 27, he had already drafted the implementation of a new form of skin graft which was rapidly gaining popularity for the decrease in pain and risk of time between burn and grafting to cause infection and possible amputation. His primary concern was firstmost the comfort and care of his patients, and he worked on the side for the hospitals in the Hidden City and the surrounding principalities. Shortly after that, he met and married Sue-Zi, and they had a very happy marriage, though she was unable to provide him with any children. Hidden City's cultural climate was considerate enough to albinos; and, unlike the usual stigmatizations associated with them, the people viewed them instead as gifts from the gods, marked out in advance to have spectacular or beneficial destinies ahead of them. This was not the case with Zachary.

STC65-Zachary

This was his first appearance in the comics, a rather scruffy-faced and older looking Echidna, with a strange medallion.

During a routine long night of research at his labs, he was caught in a highly suspicious fire that claimed the lives of two other lab assistants, destroyed the facility, and immolated his research. The details remained unreleased by the HCPD, but it was officially recorded as an accident. He was rushed to the hospital, where surgeons quickly operated on him to save his life. Ironically, as the best burn doctor and surgeon around, he was unable to 'heal himself', further irony in a mediocre staff that decided to amputate at wil, replacing a good deal of his right side with unfeeling and rather low-tech cybernetics.

Due to the nature of these cybernetics, it has been questioned whether or not the Hidden City Military was connected with the order to implant them, as cybernetics, particularly cannons were not in high availability in hospitals. The implementation of these cybernetics was equally shoddy, and one could also question whether or not the surgeons were trained to provide such a surgery, the result being further nerve damage as well as full-tissue damage in the surrounding areas, guaranteeing him a life of almost constant pain. A surgery he could have easily performed on any other patient and granted them at least some semblance of their former appearance, which could then be later adjusted with plastic surgery and nerve treatment was rejected in favour of this dubious project which left him evermore with a freakish and sinister appearance.

The association in charge of this surgery never came forward, and the surgeons who operated were never released in public record. Zachary was left with gaping questions and a blistering hatred of everyone involved, including himself, due to his new self. Unaware of the full extent of the damage, which included serious brain damage, and tissue loss, he struggled to find answers and even some memory of the event which landed him in the hospital. He was moved into the trauma ward after he found the pain too excruciating for him to walk, much less really leave the bed, but still found enough energy and willpower to continue work, this time, using himself as a test subject. An experimental drug brought sweet, blank relief to his nerves, but probably didn't do wonders for his already unstable mentality, and he wound up hooked on it. The hospital had no idea of its existence, and he kept all notes and ampules to himself, perhaps the first sign of something warped in him.

A month went by before the hospital deemed him fit enough to leave, dependent on this drug to go on with life. He returned home to find his wife very aware of his new appearance, from her singular visit to the hospital, and in the middle of a torrid affair with one of the surgeons. His heart shattered, he almost pulled the trigger with a primed cannon before the last vestiges of his former self intervened and threw her out of their house. She drew up the divorce papers soon after, and walked away at the worst possible moment. Now determined to find some form of vengence to make the hurting stop, he raided hospital records and began systematically killing every one of the surgeons involved in his 'transformation', starting with his wife's lover. Police had their suspicions, but were never able to connect him to their murders, as they occurred at random periods of time, sometimes months inbetween, and all in different ways. This cold-blooded killing would only pave the way for the mass-genocide later on.

He was finally brought in as former co-workers were concerned with his self-mutilation and acts of violence against others. His psychiatrist was almost murdered like the surgeons, but managed to help him through his tough patches, at least getting him off the drug. By that point, however, the drug itself had done significant damage that he could no longer feel anything in his torso and legs. The sites of the wounds and cybernetics continued to flare up in pain, but it was welcomed as something that deadened all other pain, and he mutilated then for the effect of just being able to feel anything. Unable to get him to stop, he was placed in a ward for a few weeks, until he broke down and retreated inside his mind, where the personalities of Id and Ego emerged briefly to reason him into a new course of action.

He returned to life in the Hidden City an apparently model citizen, looking and sounding far older than he was, with a definite course of action, and a plan to take the city by the storm. He utilized his cybernetics as a form of sympathy card, and in a devastating series of debates, unleashing acerbic intelligence and a vitrol unknown, he took Hidden City over from the previous mayor, proceeding to link it to the other principalities and rule it as a unified country, still under the name 'Hidden City'. His wife was willing to return to him once he had power, but he wanted nothing to do with her, and would never forgive her for what she had done to him.

Zachary found a way into Angel Island by way of the Mushroom Hill Zone, and began staking out the Master Emerald, as well as the Monitor Droids, in an effort to attain such a powerful object for himself.

Integrated[]

(Consider origin to be exact, but for the marriage and the murders, and from thenceforth, his movement up the scales to leader of Hidden City. Naming conventions followed closer to StC and Guardians than the Penders-specific KtE nomatives; male characters receive last names instead of 'of the house of x', female characters receive proper and standard names, including English, Slavic, and Mayan influences, colours, and foods.)

Dr. Zachary's full name is Dr. Zachary Quentin. He worked in family practice in addition to his research which was funded by the government. When he was young, he interned in Zura Labs (a lab well known for the work that Dimitri and Edmund did while there) on experimental and conceptual innovations involving the study and application of Chaos Energies. His wife's name was Courtney, not Sue-Zi, and in this reality, she actually died. While he became a terrorist shortly after his wife was interred, he continued his practice as a burn surgeon specialist, almost as an alter ego. In this reality, he was also a great deal more open about certain personal matters, and his refreshing outing of these facts allowed him to live life a lot more freely without constantly worrying about his public standing. In fact, people were more sympathetic to the fact that he had been such a loving husband regardless of his feelings on the matter.

Zachary provided improvements to Hidden City's infrastructure, and was a very vocal community member, entering into political affairs, looking out for social goods. It wasn't long before he was accepted as an important member of the political sphere, and the Council grew to value his advice. He might have preferred to rule from the shadows, but as beloved as he was, he was an easy choice to write in for public office, and found himself thrust to center stage, which worked just as well for his needs. The great weight of public opinion allowed him to stand out against Knuckles without fear for the repercussions of such an act, and the very existence of their hidden society was a tool he used against him effectively as frequently as possible, knowing fully well that he could use them against him however he saw fit.

External Information[]

  • Zachary first appeared in the thread 'Watchers in the Jungle'.
  • Zachary at times seems to contradict himself or the established truth. Whether he does this deliberately for his own agenda, or whether he is unaware is unknown. Examples of this include:
    • He claimed to be an atheist, when there was evidence to prove he was working with or worshipping Vichama, either supporting a belief in the existence of gods.
    • He claimed that Knuckles was responsible for his injuries. Knuckles claims that research would show it occurred as an accident in a chemical fire that Zachary was caught in, producing substantial burns, and the falling structure providing the blunt force trauma on his bones and cranium. This would match with the nature of the wounds.
  • For the purpose of SS, the connection between Zachary and Knuckles and how they met shall remain mystery, but will not match with the accounts of the STC magazine. Additionally, Zachary was not found and patched up by Dr. Robotnik, meaning that he holds no sort of fealty toward the rotund human. Zachary's cybernetics were crudely created and implemented after the amputations by the surgeons.
  • 11/09/11 - Recently, Dr. Zachary has been aiding AU-Finitevus in combating a fierce sentient virus on Finitevus' Tumblr Account, and seems a great deal friendlier.
