History[]

Egon's singular appearance was in a piece of semi-canon fiction written by Mr. Ian Flynn, Shadow of an Emerald Star, and he was the devoted and eager assistant of an unaltered Dr. Finitevus, a young intern who did most of the secretarial work such as transcribing notes and keeping the good doctor's schedule arranged for him. He also appeared to play the role of 'Finitevus' Number One Fan', showing a clear excitement for working for such a famous and generous scientist, enough to come any sort of natural shyness, and devotedly following up on every paper written or read by his employer.

It appears that he was somewhat close to Finitevus, enough that he was well acquainted with his interactions with other doctors, and specifically, with the harassment and repeated (unsubtle) hints that Dr. Ashi-Le dropped toward him. He was also the voice for Finitevus' AI, personally selected for his calming voice, despite the exuberance the younger Echidna often showed toward his work.

In the fiction, Egon was with Finitevus at almost every step but the crucial one; where he would have been needed most, and perhaps it was the lack of expertise in operating machinery that doomed the poor physicist. (Who knows, if Egon had been there, then Finitevus as we know him might never have existed, or, he might have considered Egon either at fault, or the singular other outside his plans - we'll never know unless we ask Mr. Flynn *plug toward people giving him money for those story commissions*)

Egon was there during the grueling and stressful period where the doctor's life hovered at the brink, and remained watching and waiting for his mentor and employer to return to full health, taking the scorn and verbal malignment without a word of protest. Though we don't know much about Egon's reactions to this, and in particular, to the drastic turnabout in fur colour and attitude, he seemed a great deal more sympathetic toward him, even during his quarantine.

As of New York Comic Con 2013, it has been revealed that Egon died in the resulting carpet-bombings of Albion. Any continuations are henceforth regarded as alternate universes.

External Information[]

  • In Gaelic origins, the name Egon means Little Fire; In Germanic origins, it means the point of a sword; both are allusions to the impending destruction of Albion that his employer brought about
  • SPECULATION: Finitevus was mentor to Egon even before he signed up to work for him... Egon is either a college student, or out of school but not through graduate school, which makes him young enough to fit the age range and the personality traits, while fulfilling this little snippet "There were flickering holographic photos from his nights out with the staff, with his parents, at Egon's graduation, and the one night he accepted Ashi-Le's invitation to dinner." So not only did Finitevus mentor his little intern before, but he actively took a part in the younger's life to the extent that he accepted the invitation to his graduation and kept photographic memory of his time there.
